TOP 5 ANIME (FALL 2018) #ANIME

Note:

  • Read the synopsis before review, because I won’t repeat the content of base-story in review

Before I start, I’m glad I manage to watch Yagate Kimi ni Naru before I make this post. I heard some great things about this series, but I doubt to try it at first simply because it’s Yuri. But hey, there’s always the first time for anything, and it ended up to enter my top 5 list!

5. Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru [First-cour]

3

Synopsis :

Kakeru, a former elite runner at high school, is chased for stealing food. He is saved by a Kansei University student Haiji, who is also a runner. Haiji persuades Kakeru to live in the old apartment “Chikuseisou” where he plans to team up with fellow residents to enter Hakone Ekiden Marathon, one of the most prominent university races in Japan. Kakeru soon finds out that all of the residents except for Haiji and himself are complete novices.

Review :

Finally, something that I wish to be animated, running-theme anime. As a sport-genre fanboy, I always welcome every sport-genre theme. We already have football, basketball, baseball, volley, american football, boxing, sumo, ice-skating, dancing, etc but I think this is the first time we’re seeing the story about running. The one who working for this anime is Production I.G, there’s no way it can’t be good.

Rather than the usual high-school concept, Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru takes the background story as a college student, it will become a plus point for college student watcher, including me. Solely because there’s a lot of relate factors from usual habit of college student. The pace of base-story is very slow, but the development of the characters is amazing. How Haiji managed to convices his friend from zero interest to running and now they’re with him until death is just amazing.  The running itself is very minimum in 1st cour, but there’s some very meaningful moments in there to make their relationship even stronger.

With very slow pace, it takes 1 cour to setup all of the characters. Expect more in 2nd cour, I bet we will got rewarded after a long build up in 1st cour.

Score :

  • Story : 7/10
  • Animation : 8/10
  • Character : 8/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 7.75/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • If you’re looking for a sport-genre series, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for a slice of life-genre this is for you
  • Similar anime : Ballroom e Youkoso

4. Sword Art Online: Alicization [First-cour]

2

Synopsis :

“Where…am I…?” Before he knows it, Kirito has made a full-dive into an epic, fantasy-like virtual world. With only a murky recollection of what happened right before he logged in, he starts to wander around, searching for clues.

He comes upon an enormous, pitch dark tree (the Gigas Cedar), where he encounters a boy. “My name is Eugeo. Nice to meet you, Kirito.” Although he is supposedly a resident of the virtual world – an NPC – the boy shows the same array of emotions as any human being.

As Kirito bonds with Eugeo, he continues to search for a way to log out of this world. Meanwhile, he remembers a certain memory deep down within him. He remembers racing through the mountains with Eugeo as a child… A memory that he should not have in the first place.

And in this memory, he sees someone other than Eugeo, a young blond girl. Her name is Alice. And it is a name that must never be forgotten…

Review :

I bet 99% people in this community already know what Sword Art Online is all about, it also often called as one of the most hated series in anime community, and I wonder why. Maybe they just feel looked like a cool person by hating on Kirito? Nobody gonna admit this as a reason but I believe that’s one of the reason, we all know how cancer the elitist in this community.

That aside, this is the third season of Sword Art Online, I always like SAO’s story concept but I don’t really like the actual overall story that much. Something that what SAO’s lack is the story-pace. Like, they skip everything because they solely wanting to show off us how great Kirito is. But, this time is a little bit different. We’re offered a stable story-pace to build up the story, something I always wish in SAO. The first experience you will get when the first time watching it is like you play a New Game JRPG in console like PS4. The way Kirito lives in this game is what I seek from SAO. The process how he become a great player, and this arc explains it better than the previous arcs, much better.

It’s 50-ish episode series, the story is only started like about 15-20% but overall I can see a bright future for this arc, and I have a feeling it will become the best arc in entire SAO series.

Score :

  • Story : 8/10
  • Animation : 9/10
  • Character : 7/10
  • Enjoyment : 7/10
  • Overall : 7.75/10

3. Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken [First-cour]

4

Synopsis :

“Rimuru Tempest” is the new name of a slime in a fantasy world taken by a former 37-year-old human Satoru Mikami after he is killed by a passing robber. Broken free from ordinary, stale past life, his fresh adventure in a fantasy world as a slime monster with unique abilities begins.

Review :

The first time when I watched the first episode, I drop it immediately when I see the main character becomes slime after his death. Not long after that, I read some good things about this series and decide to watch it again.

My first impression is it’s just another Overlord, but that’s not the case. I don’t like Overlord because the scale of story is confusing, and there’s no build-up at all, it’s similar but Slime is a little bit different. There’s detailed build-up story how he build his kingdom and soldier. Many friendly characters and funny conversation are the reason why I addicted to this series. There’s also some serious fight-scene that can make us sit quietly to watch it.

Can’t say much about this series because they just got started into the serious arc, let’s see what it can offer in 2nd-cour.

Score :

  • Story : 7/10
  • Animation : 8/10
  • Character : 9/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 8/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • If you’re looking for comedy-genre series, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for adventure-genre series, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for isekai series, this is for you
  • Similar anime : Overlord

Review :

Never in my life I thought I’m watching and liking Yuri-title at the same time. This series teach me that love can be formed in every possible kind of shape. There’s no limit for love, love has unlimited potential.

What will happen to you if you can’t love someone? What will you do if someone you love doesn’t love you back? What you will try to do if you want to love someone? What will you do if you want to get everything from someone you love? You will find the answers in this story.

1. Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai

1

Synopsis :

Puberty syndrome – abnormal experiences rumored on the internet to be caused by sensitivity and instability during adolescence.

This year, Sakuta Azusagawa, a second-year student at a high school near Enoshima, meets several girls that are experiencing this “puberty syndrome.” For instance, he meets a wild bunny girl in the library. She turns out to be an actress on hiatus, Mai Sakurajima, who is also his senior at the school. For some reason, no one else can see this enchanting girl. How did she become invisible…? As Sakuta searches for answers to help Mai, they spend more time together, and he eventually learns of her hidden feelings…

This is an unusual story that takes place in a town of bright skies and glistening seas, where Sakuta encounters various intriguing girls.

Review :

What are your first thought when you saw the cover and title for the first time? I bet it’s ‘oh shit, another isekai harem anime’. Well, I don’t blame you since the cover and title is super misleading, or maybe the writer do it on purpose? Who knows. In short, this is a story about abnormal phenomenon that happened to the girls who are in their puberty, with a lot of romance, drama and funny moments. If you know Kokoro Connect, you can assume the phenomenon is similar to that.

So what’s good about this anime? ‘It’s only about romance-comedy with some of weird phenomenon seasoning, it looks somewhat interesting but seems nothing special’. I just assumed your thoughts, and here I will explain what is special about this series. It’s the conversation. The conversation between two of the main character is really fun to follow, it’s like they’re doing a stand-up comedy in front of us, and it’s very enjoyable. The conversation itself remind me of my most favorite Rom-com series, Oregairu.

Well, that’s not the only point why I like this series, it also has a funny love relationship between the main characters, an ideal relationship that everyone wish to have, and some drama to spice up the story.

Score :

  • Story : 8/10
  • Animation : 8/10
  • Character : 10/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 8.5/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • If you’re looking for a quality Rom-com series, this is for you
  • Similar anime : Kokoro Connect, and Oregairu

Sorry if my seasonal-review is a bit short this time, I’m not really excited with the line-up in this fall season. I have hard time to decide the fifth title for my list, but once again, I’m glad I give Yagate Kimi ni Naru a try. I also working on with probably my most favorite post since the first time I start blogging, can’t wait until it finished!
