Duel Links [Guide] – How to live as a Competitive and Free to Play player at the same time #DuelLinks #Yu-Gi-Oh!

Before we go into the post, I have to say something first. My english-writing is bad firstly because english isn’t my first language, and most of times I only learned english from books, games, and internet but I will try my best to avoid mistakes as much as I can so you guys can enjoy reading this post.

Duel Links

123

Today, I will discuss about one of my favorite mobile game, Duel Links.

In recent weeks, I see a lot of F2P (Free to play) players felt unfair since Silent Magician [Structure Deck] was released and the popular hastags #IWantMyGems becomes a thing. With this post, I want try to help the players who thinks it’s hard to live as F2P player to play competitive, and hopefully it can change your mindset.

From the first time I’ve been playing Duel Links, maybe I’m the only one who feel grateful to Konami with how gems works in this game. In almost every online games, there’s always two kind of currency to buy item and stuff, one is you can get it from the game itself, and the other one is you only can get it with real money. In Duel Links, we’re blessed, because there’s only one currency in this game (honestly there’s two, but who cares about gold), and you can get it either from the game itself or using your money. It seems simple but this is a very rare case, and gladly it’s a good one. Sadly, it’s the fact only before Silent Magician was arrived not too long time ago.

However, we also can’t blame Konami for releasing this kind of premium items, a game company surely will always find a way to get the money from their customers, moreover if the game is a huge success. But, let’s see it from the positive side, Silent Magician isn’t really used in meta right now (Meta is Fur Hire, Amazoness, and Masked HEROes), so there’s no reason to upset about it. You play to win, so if Konami’s act doesn’t bother your way to win, that’s not a problem, isn’t it? There’s nothing to complain about, at least for now. Instead of complaining, let’s thanks Konami for their generosity to make a free (Amazoness) and cheap (Fur Hire) meta deck. A reminder for you guys who doesn’t know the nightmare IRL (In real life) duelist always has, you need at least $1000 (in total) to buy competitive-staple cards to compete for highest level. That’s why I said we are blessed in this game.

What it means to be a competitive player ? Competitive is an attitude for someone who always want to win, which mean you will always want to compete in highest level. In other words, you’ll have to play meta decks which is the best way to do that.

To play as a competitive and F2P (Free to Play) player at the same time, you need to spend your gems wisely because gems for F2P player is limited. Spend wisely means you must only focus to buy cards only for competitive purpose (materials for meta deck and important staple cards). And, you need to learn how to tell the differences between a good card and a bad card, or a card that you should buy and a card that you shouldn’t buy. The point is, you must know what you need to have.

To do that, you must have a lot of knowledges from Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. It takes a lot of times and experiences, so if you’re in doubt or still can’t tell which card you should buy, you can visit this site for references.

Now, let’s get into the main topic. I will tell you how I spend my gems, which I believe the best way to use your gems wisely, especially if you’re a F2P player.

How to spend your gems wisely

1. [Main Box-Guide] Don’t buy any pack in Main Box to only find 1 UR/SR card

  • Go blindly into Main Box only to find 1 card isn’t the best way to use your gems, especially an UR card. The percentage is very small and can used up to your 10.000 gems in worst scenario, so it’s much better idea if you avoid it. As much as I remembered, there’s no card in this game is that important for you to go blindly into the Main Box just to find 1 particular card.
  • There’s also a special set named Selection Box which contains a bunch of important UR/SR cards in the previous set. Basically it’s the reprint of many useful cards. Instead of blindly spend gems for only 1 card, it’s wiser to wait for this special set.

23

2. [Main Box-Guide] Spend in Main Box if you got two or three purpose in mind

  • If you want to spend gems in Main Box, always prepare two or three useful goals why you should spend in that set. It can be for farming deck materials, potential and important staple cards, or make a new meta deck. Just don’t spend it with only 1 purpose in mind.
  • For example is, Valiant Souls. You can find important pieces for Masked HEROes and Geargia deck, many staple-cards like Paleozoic Canadia, Needle Ceiling, Double Cyclone, and a lot of useful and potential cards like Vision Hero Witch Raider, Fusion Reserve, and Dark World Dealings.

Valiant-Souls-Feature

3. [Mini Box-Guide] Always give your full attention to Mini Box.

  • Mini Box is our treasure, our destined holy place to spend gems, the reason is solely because of the percentage to get the card you want is higher than in the Main Box.
  • Things you need to make sure to spend gems in Mini Box is, either the set has meta-deck materials or two or three important staples. If one of those requirements is fulfilled, it’s time to spend, otherwise, don’t spend your valuable limited gems.

4. [Gems-Guide] Never buy any pack to build a deck for fun.

  • This is the most important thing what you need to learn to survive as a F2P player. It’s a bad habit from every F2P-player, can’t hold their hunger to open a pack for fun. I’ve got nothing to say other than you must hold back your desires because open a pack for fun is a luxury we can’t have as a F2P-player, remember where are you come from, bro.

1

The conclusion is, if you want to remain as a competitive player and doesn’t want to spend any money, know what cards you should have, avoid any set that doesn’t contains competitive-purpose cards, and always remember you don’t have the luxury to open any pack for fun, just keep that in mind and you’ll be alright.

So, if you already done my methods above, you will have a rich-people’s problem which is having too much gems (because there will be always one or two set to skip per format). There’s must be a reason why Konami set a limiter for every player’s gems, and for me it’s to force their players to spend gems blindly if their gems is already maxed out. Then, when you need gems in crucial time (for example, to find particular cards you need for tournament), and 9999 gems isn’t enough, you will be forced to pay it with your money. I think this is their main goal.

But, I found a little trick to avoid this problem (I’ve been doing this for a while now).

Trick how to save gems if your gems is already maxed out (9999)

1. Level-up your Legendary Duelist until level 27, and don’t let it level up until the last exp you need, here’s an example

Screen Shot 2018-07-20 at 3.35.07 PM

2. Do this to your every Legendary Duelist who still isn’t level 27 yet.

Here’s some examples some of my saved gems.

3. Then, with 1 or 2 duels, you will get to withdraw your gems immediately if you need it.

I bet most of players who love to save gems know this method, but for F2P player who like to open packs for fun, let alone know this method, they won’t even have this luxurious problem.

The real purpose of this trick is so we can be ready anytime if we have to spend gems for any purpose, without having to spend money. Also it can be used to avoid any useless set, so we don’t have to be forced to spend our gems if already maxed out, and keeping it for something useful in the future. Think it as your warehouse.

Little tips : Keep your ‘9999 gems slot’ solely for ‘gems from event’ as much as you can, and if you don’t have enough gems to buy packs, withdraw it by leveled up your legendary duelist (like the method above).

Note :

  • If you already withdraw gems from level 27 and want to save up your gems again, you can do the same to level 28.
  • Basically, it doesn’t have to be exact level 27, you can do it from whatever level you want, as long as the prize for level up is gems.
  • This method is only applies to gems from Legendary Duelist.
  • Don’t spend more than you need, always remember this.

I’m not sharing this method without a prove and result. From doing my methods above, now I have all of Tier 1 decks (Fur Hire, Amazoness, and Masked HEROes), some good old decks (RE Zombie, Gladiator Beast, Sylvan, and Spellbooks) and other good stuff while still having 9999 gems and some saved gems in the bag (Ignore about my deck’s compositition, I just put some of them randomly just to screenshot it).

Once again, if you can put your focus only for competitive purpose, gems that we get for free from Konami is more than enough.

I just realized I’m still on stage 43, and it’s kinda embrassing. For your information, I’m a kind-of laziest player in this game. I never farm a card despite having a farming deck, because the only non-auto duel that motivate me is PvP and gems-event. Should’ve fix this bad habit, and don’t try this at home.

Closing :

The real purpose I made this post is to show everyone you can live as a competitive player and F2P player at the same time, not to tell you to not spend any money in this game. If you have money and decide to spend it, it’s better because you will have easier time.

I just somehow feel weird when people said Konami is not giving us enough free gems, when the fact is, it’s mostly the player’s fault who spend it blindly.

Somewhere in my heart, I strongly feel this game will be like another shitty P2W Konami YGO games and will fail again at some point, but I was wrong.

Duel Links World Championship, that’s the prove Duel Links is a huge success. Konami is brave enough to make a World Championship for Duel Links, which means they see a lot of potential in this game. As a duelist, I always happy for everything good that happened to the game I love.

Hope this post will get good feedbacks which can motivate me to post another useful stuff for Duel Links in the future! Thanks for reading ^^

TOP 5 ANIME (SPRING 2018) #ANIME

5. Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai

4

Synopsis :

In the story, Mitsuyoshi Tada, a boy who has never known love, is taking pictures of the cherry blossoms in full bloom when he meets Teresa Wagner, a transfer student from Luxembourg. Upon arriving in Japan, she got lost, separated from her travel companion. Mitsuyoshi helps her and brings her to his grandfather’s coffee shop.

Review :

Tada-kun wa Koi wo Shinai is kind of series that we always need in every season. Fresh romance-comedy which can give you a heart-warming moments. The story start with happiness feeling all over the episode, but towards the end, it get more serious but not serious enough to become a tear-jerker series. Well, I can’t say much about this series, since it’s basically like a regular romance story but with a little different background story.

To be honest, I was confused which series I should choose for 5th place between Tada-kun, Wota-koi, and Major 2nd. But at the end, Tada-koi gave me more impact than the other two, thanks to the story becomes much better towards to the end.

Score :

  • Story : 7/10
  • Animation : 7/10
  • Character : 7/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 7.25/10

4. Golden Kamuy

3

Synopsis :

In Hokkaido, the far northern lands of Japan, Sugimoto survived the Russo-Japanese war of the Meiji era. Nicknamed “Sugimoto the Immortal” during the war, he now seeks the riches promised by the gold rush in hopes of saving the widowed wife of his now deceased comrade from the war. During his hunt of gold, he finds hints of a hidden stash of gold by corrupt criminals. Partnering with an Ainu girl that saves his life from the harsh climates of the north, they venture into a survival adventure to race against the criminals that seek the hidden stash

Review :

Golden Kamuy is a sleeper for this season. The story takes historical-theme which I really not interested it. The biggest reason why I take a look for this series is the fact it won Tezuka Award, and gladly the story is really interesting, and well-deserved for the award.

In short, it’s about adventure, action, and survival theme with WW2 (World War 2) as their background story to search gold for their own perspective purpose. But, the strongest point of Golden Kamuy is not their historic-theme, the war, or even their fighting. It’s their interaction and unique’s personality between each character with their comedy sense. You will see a lot of happy and funny moments between our two main characters, and sometime can make us forget this series is about survival, in other words, killing or get killed. The adventure-story itself will give us a lot of thrill, the killing-scene seems so realistic, somtimes it feels like you don’t watch a fictional-scene, rather than watching it live.

Score :

  • Story : 7/10
  • Animation : 7/10
  • Character : 7/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 7.25/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • If you’re looking for survival theme, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for historical theme, this is for you
  • Don’t watch it if you can’t stand blood (killing-scene isn’t extreme, but it’s also not regular either)

3. Steins;Gate 0 [First-cour]

1

Synopsis :

The dark untold story of Steins;Gate that leads with the eccentric mad scientist Okabe, struggling to recover from a failed attempt at rescuing Kurisu. He decides to give up and abandons his lively scientist alter ego, in pursuit to forget the past. When all seems to be normal, he is seemingly pulled back into the past by meeting an acquaintance of Kurisu, who tells him that they have begun testing a device that stores the memory of a human and creates a simulation of them with their characteristics and personalities. Okabe begins testing and finds out that the simulation of Kurisu has brought back anguish and some new unexpected tragedies.

Zero explores events from the Beta Attractor Field’s future that contribute in making the end of the original story possible.

Review :

Who doesn’t know Steins;Gate? This is one of the most popular series in anime-community. Maybe most of you are surprise what an amazing series like Steins;Gate is doing in the 3rd place. However, it’s not only you, I’m also surprised with myself because at first sight I believe Steins;Gate 0 will be my best anime for this season. From the first episode, we already can feel the amazing thrill what will we face in front of us. The potential is there, for being one of the greats like it’s predecessor, which people often calls as one of the best anime of all time. But well, from all of these 12 episode so far, the potential still isn’t used to the fullest.

Steins;Gate 0 is an alternative ending from the original series, you can see this post for details. The series starts in a tricky way which can make their watchers always curious about what happen next. But the pattern of the episodes can make us who watch it weekly somehow feels frustated. The pattern is basically like : Start in a regular way -> WTF moment happened at the end of episode ->  Start in a regular way again (despite there’s a WTF moment at the end of the last episode) -> WTF moment happened again at the end of episode. Actually, this is the basic way how to keep the watchers curious, and make them feel motivated to see what happen next. What make me dissapointed is, in this kind of series, a high-quality title with so much big expectation everywhere, they really should step-up their regular way to open the episode.

Well, it’s still 12 episode, and still too early to judge, and I hope there will be more amazing moments which can make us feels the amazing thrill again like in the original series. Despite with me saying all of this, I still love Steins;Gate as a whole.

The fact that I complain so much with Steins;Gate is because I expect phenomenal story will happen in this series, in other words, my expectation is very big for this one.

Score :

  • Story : 9/10
  • Animation : 8/10
  • Character : 7/10
  • Enjoyment : 8/10
  • Overall : 8/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • The right way to watch this series : Watch Steins;Gate (Original) -> Steins;Gate: Kyoukaimenjou no Missing Link – Divide By Zero -> Steins;Gate 0
  • If you like Sci-Fi series, this is a must watch for you
  • This series is about time-leap, and for me the best series which has time-leap element
  • Similar anime : Boku dake ga Inai Machi

2. Hinamatsuri

3

Synopsis :

One night, a strange object falls on the head of Nitta, a member of the yakuza. Inside the box is a strange young girl named Hina. She has tremendous supernatural powers, and Nitta finds himself reluctantly taking her in. Her powers can come in handy for his yakuza business, but he also runs the risk of her using them on him! Not to mention, if she doesn’t use her powers, she will eventually go berserk and destroy everything around her. Nitta and Hina’s strange life together is just beginning…

Review :

Random mecha big-egg arrives randomly into your apartment, and from that egg, appears a random super-natural little girl. If you’re seeing this, what will you do? Well, a yakuza in this series decides to adopt that little girl, despite how absurd her entrance is.

It’s a better idea to avoid explaining Hinamatsuri’s story even more, because you will end up think the story is super crazy and decide to avoid it. With Hinamatsuri, you should just try watch it yourself rather than reading the synopsis (the first episode can represent this series as a whole). Here, I will try to explain with different approaches.

Hinamatsuri is a comedy series, and for me, a high-quality one. Many people will say a comedy series can’t be rated objectively since most of watcher’s taste is always different. However, Hinamatsuri is much more than that. You will get a lot of heart warming moments while laughing hard in one episode. That’s quite special, isn’t it? Yes, it is, I don’t remember any other comedy anime that gives me the same impact as much as Hinamatsuri. It’s a weird feeling, yet felt really amazing, it’s like a fusion (mix) of sad, sympathic, relieved and happy feelings, a brand new experience. This series is trying to teach and making their watchers learn about life while entertain us with their comedy.

This is also the first time I’m watching a series that make me want to cry and laughing in every episode at the same time. It seems so simple, but actually it’s really amazing. The writer is know very well how human’s feels works, and he always spot-on with his way of story-telling, props to him.

In the end, you don’t have to like particular genre to watch Hinamatsuri, this series was made for all kinds of humanity. Special.

Score :

  • Story : 8/10
  • Animation : 8/10
  • Character : 10/10
  • Enjoyment : 10/10
  • Overall : 9/10

1. Boku no Hero Academia (3rd Season) [First-cour]

7

Synopsis :

Third season of Boku no Hero Academia.

Review :

One of the most popular JUMP-series finally get the sequel they deserve for being super fantastic last season. Boku no Hero Academia once again bring the storm to anime-community and has proven that they’re the best modern shonen in the business. This season’s episodes spoke for itself.

Starting the show with a very weak start, most of the watchers have let their guard down only to be blown away by the superb-quality from the two of the best episodes from this season. Well, it’s also not exaggerate if we call it the best episodes in the entire series, I won’t tell you which episodes since it will destroy the surprise factor, but believe me you will know immediately when you watch it, prepare yourself because your adrenaline will go wild.

The important thing that should be mentioned is the mediocre Class B finally move-up from their comfort-zone to working-hard and slowly becoming a Hero they’ve always wanted to be. All characters have a great development equally, like Kirishima’s bond with Bakugo become stronger, and all of other support is become more important than before, something that has always been missing in most of shonen-series. Almost all of the support-characters in shonen-series are usually overshadowed by the main characters, but Boku no Hero Academia change that perspective in a spectacular way. The story from this season feels move up a lot faster than last season, because we got to see many iconic moments which can probably is one of the biggest turning point for this series.

The way of the story-writing feels a lot like Eiichiro Oda, a perfectionist who never wants to left a weakness in his story. From these 3 season from Boku no Hero Academia so far, the writer can manage to exceed my expectation two times consistently (the story is become better and better every season), so I think it’s safe if we always expect something greater, I believe BNHA’s writer can deliver and meet our expectation.

Score :

  • Story : 9/10
  • Animation : 9/10
  • Character : 9/10
  • Enjoyment : 10/10
  • Overall : 9.25/10

Short-guide (15+) :

  • If you’re looking for usual action-adventure shonen series, this is for you
  • If you’re a JUMP-series fanboy, this is ‘must watch’ for you
  • This series is a successor from the biggest name in JUMP (Dragonball, Naruto, etc)
  • Similar anime : Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto

Giant Killing is the most relatable anime to real-life football fans #ANIME

Giant Killing

Football

Football is all about 22 random players from 2 team who chasing the ball to take it to opposition’s goal.  Good 11 players can always winning you the game. Is this true about football? In most of football-anime, it’s a fact, but not in real life football. If football can be won by only having 11 good players, it’s impossible for me to love this sport. There’s so much factor outside of having good players, something like a great board (president, director and staff), great manager, great tactics, and even fans is also a really important factor (you can’t win all the games without fans).

Football (Anime)

Football anime, series like Captain Tsubasa, Inazuma Eleven, Days, Area no Kishi and Whistle, also the overpowered skillfull main-character like Tsubasa (from Captain Tsubasa) who can single handledy win you the game will immediately comes into mind.

In reality (highest-level of football), character like Tsubasa (from Captain Tsubasa) who can dribble everyone on the pitch is just a myth (the only player who can do it is Lionel Messi (from what I’ve seen), the best player in football history).

Something like that won’t happen in Giant Killing, because this series represent real life football.

Giant Killing will offer you a brand new experience, because the main character is a manager. No, not only that. This series explain you how the board (president, director and staff), manager, fans and even journalists works at professional football in real life. This is the biggest reason why I said this series is the most relatable anime to football fans.

I’m a football fan, watch football match almost every week, and follow the biggest football community (Football Twitter) everyday, when all of the fans from around the world, media, journalist, and statement from official club, players, president, etc in there. Somehow most of football-anime never explain with details the role for each of them, they always focus on players. Yes, I’m agree players is the most standout, but if you’re a real sport fan, you must be always want more explanation especially from off the pitch. Don’t worry, if you’re looking for something like that, be grateful because you already arrived in the right place.

Giant Killing is so details, it explains every elements in this sport.

It’s not really important and interesting factor for who doesn’t watch real life football, because there’s no relateable factor, but if you’re a real football fans, you will get like three times more have fun while watching it (I mean ‘real’ football fans, not the one who just watch the highlights and judging like elitist).

Enough of element from off the pitch, now time to discuss elements on the pitch. It’s also like real life football. I mean the tactics, most of football-anime series always focus on how skillfull the player is (how 1 player can single handledly win you the game), but not in Giant Killing. The most important factor to win is tactics and strategy, how to defense, how to attack, how to counter-attack, how to keep possesion, how to manage space and time, etc. This is something I always missed in most of football anime, and Giant Killing present it beautifully.

Football is all about teamwork and tactics, player’s individual skill comes after that.

Words means nothing without proves, so here it is :

Yu-Gi-Oh is slowly becoming a ‘more’ luck-based game #Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh or YGO, pretty sure what first comes into your mind about this word is the Yu-Gi-Oh anime, since this blog mostly talks about anime. However, this time it’s not, this post will discuss about the actual YGO game, the Trading Card Game or known as TCG.

ycs_bochum_20132

I’m a duelist (what YGO player call themselves), who has been playing YGO in real life since 2011 and competitively since 2015, but these days I don’t really enjoy playing this game. The reason? Well, you will soon find out while reading the rest of this post, let’s get into it.

Note: This post will assume the readers are duelists (YGO players in real life who understand most of the terms which are used in the game)

YGO is a trading card game, it means as all the other tcg-s are, you need a bit of luck to win in it. But, as far as I know, YGO is one of the tcg that needs the least of luck to win because most of the time it is decided by other factors which are more important than luck alone, such as your skill to play, deck-building, and overall experience. However right now, YGO is starting to feel like a more luck-based game than it usually is. Here in this article, I will explain my insightful reasoning.

In recent years, especially the last two years, a deck should has the ability to create an unbreakable board to be considered as a competitive deck. It’s obviously not the only thing you need though, but most of competitive deck will always have a way to make an unbreakable board.

‘Making an unbreakable board means you don’t let your opponent play. In other words, your opponent can’t create a play unless they get rid of that board or prevent you to make it. How to prevent it is by using a lot of hand traps.’

So, this is the structure of the main problem, and I will explain it in details below.

1. Brainless deck

  • Continuing from above, to create an unbreakable board, there must be a play-pattern you need to follow (for example the steps to do a combo), that means you will repeat the same pattern every game. Repeat the same pattern means you only need to remember the pattern. Remember the pattern means you do the plays based on the pattern. So you don’t need to think hard to create an unbreakable board, remember the pattern is all you need (just in case, you also need to remember what will you do if your combo is disturbed by your opponent’s hand traps).
  • Shortly, remember the pattern can win you the game.

2. Hand traps

  • Staple cards right now is so strong that it actually can single handedly win you the game, especially the cards that can be activated from the hand a.k.a the hand traps. Activating card’s effects from hand has superior advantages, because it’s hard to counter it (almost impossible pre-Called by the Grave), and has a luxury that you can’t have from normal trap cards, which is you can disturb your opponent’s play in their first turn without setting it first.
  • Hand traps aren’t really a problem at first because it has a lot of weaknesses back then. For example, Effect Veiler isn’t really effective against control deck (deck with a lot of backrow), and D.D. Crow isn’t effective against non-grave based deck. It creates a problem when the hand traps becomes effective against all kinds of the decks, the best example is Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s strong against everything which makes it a no-brainer to use it at 3 in your main deck.
  • Then, if most players already use a lot of hand traps in their deck, that means the interactions between archetype cards (non-staple) will be rarely seen. That’s basically what makes the game more less-interactive, because the interaction involving hand traps is super easy, yet super effective. You only need a little bit of your head to think how to use it. If you know the timing, you can’t fail.
  • I still remember when one of my opponents said this to me when I activated Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to disturb his play (afaik, he’s just coming back to play YGO recently at that time). He said ‘One hand-trap right now actually can transform my best possible opening board into worst possible board’

3. Lack of interactions between each archetypes

  • Interaction in YGO right now mostly involves the hand traps. Interaction between each archetypes is only like ‘formality’ to finish the job hand traps has done in the game.
  • For example, your opponent won the dice-roll and choose to going first, he start making a play but you disturb him with hand traps, he can’t make a play anymore and decide to end his turn. In your turn, the condition is, your opponent doesn’t have any real threat to prevent you to make a play. Then, you do your usual play and make a good board to make sure your opponent can’t recover again.
  • You can see clearly how big the role of hand traps became in this game right now.
  • You won’t find the same condition in picture below frequently anymore in YGO these days. When the battle was between Archetype VS Archetype not Hand traps VS Hand traps, good old days.

1

4. How to decide win or lose is basically just waiting

  • Winning or losing dice-roll has been one the biggest factors to win the game, even until now. However, with the luxury we have with all these hand traps right now (insurance for going 2nd), it’s not exactly same anymore. But, that doesn’t mean luck plays a smaller role either.
  • This is practically same with the example of condition above, If you win the dice-roll (mostly choose going 1st), you can win easily if your first five-drawn cards can do some combo plays and create a decent board, but your win-condition can be turn-tabled with only one hand trap if your opponent activate it in the right time and you can’t recover from that (If you have no more card to extend your combo play).
  • And vice-versa, if you lose the dice-roll (usually will get 2nd), and your opponent first five-drawn cards can make a great opening play, you must have the hand trap(s) to prevent him from doing some combos, or a certain card to break their board (something like Raigeki and Kaiju-cards), otherwise, you’re likely to lose or your only hope is to wait for your opponent to brick (can’t make a play).
  • It’s not that simple? Yes, I agree, but most of the time, this is the most often condition you will see in YGO right now. Hand traps rules!

1

What I think Konami should/keep doing:

1. Leave the ‘unbreakable-board’ trend, and bring back ‘grind-game’ trend

  • The reason why I think grind-game is healthier than unbreakable-board meta because of the differences of their interaction in the game. Meta with unbreakable board will forces you to use a lot of hand traps, and interaction between hand traps is pretty much not interesting because you’re using it at the obvious timing. But, if the deck (archetype) itself who interacts between each other, the game will become more entertaining and mostly be decided by skill and your card choices.
  • Well, of course interaction between archetypes I said above is something like grind-game, for example : DUEA-format (between Shadoll, Satellar, and Burning Abyss)
  • But the problem is, the only way to kill hand traps right now is only to ban it, because no matter what trend we play in right now (either unbreakable-board or grind-game), hand traps will always be used because it’s already beyond good.

2. Make the game slower

  • Slower? Why Slower? From my experience, if the game is quite long (like grind- game), the biggest factor to win the game will be your overall skills, which the winner should be decided with. Making the game faster isn’t really doing any good for the game itself.

1

3. Don’t make ‘one-deck’ format

  • Why do you think YGO is an interesting game? Because you have so many options to create your own deck and let your creativity go wild. This is just a bullshit, because most players will copy the champion’s (or top player’s) decklists. That’s why if there’s a deck who can only be beaten by itself, everyone will play the same deck (one-deck format), and luck will the biggest factor to decide the winner (I’m not ruling out skill, and experience though, but there’s a limit of how you can take advantage of your skill and experience, because we know top players definitely have that while luck is a different matter).

1

  • ‘But, if the format is based on, for example three-deck format, it will be same because everyone will just copy-paste it’ It’s not exactly the same condition, because you have to choose from those three decks, and the decision will be taken based on your understanding of the game, so skill and experience matters.
  • Moreover, I believe most players will always prefer variants-deck format than one-deck format, so it’s also better from marketing’s perspective.

Additional note (before someone mentions it) : From other’s perspective, one-deck format can become a good format if a certain card isn’t the one who decides the winner (something like Wavering Eyes in Pendulum match-up and Maxx “C” in Zoodiac format), because the big gap of skill and experience will punish the one who has less (But I still stand with variants-deck format > one-deck format).

4. Stop limiting a strong staple card, better ban it or make it to three

  • Limiting certain strong cards which can be used in every deck (like staple cards) is a wrong way about how to approach this game.
  • Remember Zoodiac format? That’s the perfect example of this problem. The deck is pretty much auto-pilot. Super linear play-style, but the biggest problem is Maxx “C” at 1. One Maxx “C” is all you need to stop Zodiac’s play. So in mirror-match, basically the one who has Maxx “C” they already have 1 game-won in the bag. That’s a very bad decision coming from Konami to limit Maxx “C”, but finally after several formats, Konami has realized their mistake and already ban that card.
  • It is always better to ban strong card than make it to three (but still, making it to three is far better choice than limiting it to one), because the interactions between ‘less-strong’ cards are always more entertaining than between strong cards.

I really love this game, this is the first time I’m very serious with a game (has spent tons of money), and this time is also the first time I don’t really enjoy this game. It’s not the only factor tbh, there’s more like: Cards become super expensive right now (If you don’t have these cards, you have less-advantages than the one who has it). Fortunately, I have enough money to cover all of the expensive cards, but I was annoyed by the fact I need to spend that ‘much’ money for a game. You need at least $500-700 to buy playset of strong staple cards every year (or sometimes every format). Well, this is not the first time playing YGO needs a lot of money, but the fact that in the last 2 years you need $500-$700 consistently to play competitively is hard to accept.

I want to explain this more thoroughly, but it will go too far from the main topic, so maybe later (including the explanation of the usual-pattern Konami used back then, which is much better than now).

Back to the topic, maybe this is always has been the problems at YGO in general, and how the format was played in the last 2 years make it more obvious.

I’ve felt this condition since Zoodiac format, but the one who make me realise this as a whole is SPYRAL format. Unbelievably consistent and overpowered opening board. That’s basically tell your opponent just surrender if they don’t have the hand traps.

I want to remind you that I don’t say YGO has became a luck-based game, but I think the percentage has just increased, from maybe 20%-ish to 30-40%-ish. Skill, deck-building ability, and your experience are still considered as important factors, as it’s always been.

Closing :

I hope this game won’t die until I lost my interest to play it, maybe I just need to take a break for now, and I don’t think I will quit this game anytime soon because I haven’t been satisfied with my achievement so far. All of this is purely my opinion, so if you got yours, share it with a comment below!

Why do you must watch Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan #ANIME

In recent weeks, I see an AOTS (Anime of the Season) ranking list in Anime Trending (one of the most popular Anime-Ranking list platform). Well, first I must say, Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan is my AOTS for last season (you can click here to see my top 5 list), but the problem is I don’t see Saiki in top list from Anime Trending, but finally with a little effort I can see Saiki in 20th place. 20th place!? Really!? I won’t blame who vote but I’m pretty sure this series is very very underrated in this community.

The main purpose I make this post is to tell you guys why you must watch Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan, not force you to change your opinion about AOTS for last season, because I’m pretty sure the reason why this community doesn’t rate Saiki is because they don’t watch it, not because they think this series is shit.

So, let’s get into the main point

1. The most consistent comedy-series I’ve ever watched

  • You know Gintama? Arguably the most popular comedy-series. I’m also a big fan of Gintama, and I really have fun, laughing hard when watching it, but you know, it’s not exactly everytime I can have that fun. Sometimes the comedy seems so boring, and not consistent at all, but Saiki is different. I don’t remember if there’s a boring episode from Saiki, all of the episodes are enjoyable.

One example of comedy-scene in Saiki :

  • It can be your eating-best friend easily (It can’t happen with Gintama because most of the jokes is all about sh*t and d*ck)

2. If you don’t get what you’re looking for from a comedy series (have fun while laughing) until now, this series will give you a new perspective

  • That is what exactly I feel when I found Saiki (can’t explain it very well, but you will understand when start watching it). You know, I don’t really like comedy series because I rarely laugh when watching it (for example, I don’t have fun watching Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, which is a really popular comedy-series), but it’s different with Saiki. What I can say is, Saiki was made to give people like me (who doesn’t enjoy comedy that much) a different perspective about comedy-series. Also, shoutout to all of Saiki’s voice actor to make all of this possible (how they speak is one of the most important factors why Saiki is very very enjoyable)

  • For you who don’t get laugh easily by a generic comedy-attempt (like straight guy who correct the stupidity from other characters) and made you never touch comedy-series (because your mind say all of comedy series is suck), ignore about it for a while, and give your time a bit to give this series a try, you will get what you’re looking for from comedy-series

3. It can be used like ‘healing potion’ after watched some heavy-drama series

  • In recent weeks I saw ‘Ichigo is bitch’ (from Darling in the FranXX) posts everywhere and I always feel hate in those posts. Nah, I don’t really give a fuck about those haters, but you know, after watched that episode, I also somehow feel bad (I don’t know what to call this feel, but it feels like when you’re in badmood-mode). After that, I try to catch up until the latest Saiki’s episode. The result? I’m completely don’t care anymore about what happened in Darling in the FranXX

  • Also can be used if you want to make your mood better

4. You will get to see someone who is stronger than Saitama (One-Punch Man)

  • Just a bonus, people really like comparing Saitama (from One Punch Man) with Goku (from Dragon Ball), Saitama is a gag-character that shouldn’t compared with Goku, Saiki is a better choice if people really want to make comparison (Saiki is also a gag-character). Saiki is like a god in this series, can change people mind, instant teleportation, has unbelieveable power and he can control the world easily. So not comparable to Saitama, end of thread.

  • Just kidding. What I want to say is, don’t compare any gag-character to find out who’s stronger, because gag-character never lose with those comparisons.

I hope Saiki will give you guys the same happiness like when I’m watching it.

Thanks for reading^^

TOP 5 ANIME (WINTER 2018) #ANIME

5. Violet Evergarden

Synopsis :

The Great War finally came to an end after four long years of conflict; fractured in two, the continent of Telesis slowly began to flourish once again. Caught up in the bloodshed was Violet Evergarden, a young girl raised for the sole purpose of decimating enemy lines. Hospitalized and maimed in a bloody skirmish during the War’s final leg, she was left with only words from the person she held dearest, but with no understanding of their meaning.

Recovering from her wounds, Violet starts a new life working at CH Postal Services after a falling out with her new intended guardian family. There, she witnesses by pure chance the work of an “Auto Memory Doll,” amanuenses that transcribe people’s thoughts and feelings into words on paper. Moved by the notion, Violet begins work as an Auto Memory Doll, a trade that will take her on an adventure, one that will reshape the lives of her clients and hopefully lead to self-discovery.

Score :

Honestly, I have a doubt which series I should choose for 5th place (with Sora yori mo Tooi Basho). Then I think I will go with Violet since it give me more impact than Sora yori mo Tooi Basho. In the end, for me these 2 quality is same (just I prefer Violet more).

  • Story : 7/10 (One-sentence about story : Start of 2nd life from emotionless-girl to find what ‘love’ means. Background story is well prepared for great drama impact at the end, people will like it. Pace of story is bad, too many build-up episodes, gladly still acceptable since those episodes isn’t that bad (but it will be annoying for marathon-watcher). Story-line is predictable, but it’s not really a problem)
  • Animation : 8/10 (Kyoto Animation, did a wonderful work as always)
  • Character : 6/10 (You can find Violet (main character) pretty annoying at first, but there’s a great development at the end, just bear with it. Support-characters is pretty much standard)
  • Enjoyment : 7/10 (Episodic-series isn’t my main preference, moreover if it’s drama-series, but gladly the quality of build-up story or people prefer to say it as ‘filler’ isn’t as bad as people think)
  • Overall : 7/10 (It’s a fine drama series, certain episode will give you great impact)

Short-guide (13+) :

  • If you’re looking for drama with a little bit love story, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for episodic-series, this is for you
  • This series can be categorized as ‘heavy’ drama
  • Similar-anime : Kobato

4. Darling in the FranXX [First-cour]

Synopsis :

In the distant future, humanity has been driven to near-extinction by giant beasts known as Klaxosaurs, forcing the surviving humans to take refuge in massive fortress cities called Plantations. Children raised here are trained to pilot giant mechas known as FranXX—the only weapons known to be effective against the Klaxosaurs—in boy-girl pairs. Bred for the sole purpose of piloting these machines, these children know nothing of the outside world and are only able to prove their existence by defending their race.

Hiro, an aspiring FranXX pilot, has lost his motivation and self-confidence after failing an aptitude test. Skipping out on his class’ graduation ceremony, Hiro retreats to a forest lake, where he encounters a mysterious girl with two horns growing out of her head. She introduces herself by her codename Zero Two, which is known to belong to an infamous FranXX pilot known as the “Partner Killer.” Before Hiro can digest the encounter, the Plantation is rocked by a sudden Klaxosaur attack. Zero Two engages the creature in her FranXX, but it is heavily damaged in the skirmish and crashes near Hiro. Finding her partner dead, Zero Two invites Hiro to pilot the mecha with her, and the duo easily defeats the Klaxosaur in the ensuing fight. With a new partner by his side, Hiro has been given a chance at redemption for his past failures, but at what cost?

Score :

  • Story : 8/10 (One-sentence about story : We will save adults because Papa tell us to do so. Background story is interesting, because we got dark background story to solve in the middle of series (which I really like). Writer make characters that they don’t know where they come from, and the characters try to find it (we all know this kind of set-up rarely dissapoint us). Pace of story is somehow slow to build-up a little romance story between these kids, don’t worry because it’s enjoyable. So far, the mecha-element isn’t really standout.
  • Animation : 8/10 (A-1 and Trigger, but it feels more like Trigger-style, and will remind you a lot of Kill la Kill (which is great))
  • Character : 7/10 (Hiro (main character) is super boring so far, but there’s a chance that he will become better in the future (I won’t explain because of possible-spoilers). What I really like is the support characters especially our main heroines. One is a leader-type but act like a little girl in love near our main character, and the other one is who like our main character a lot but somehow hated by others. Interaction between them is so interesting to follow, this is why this series won’t make you bored)
  • Enjoyment : 8/10 (I enjoyed this because of the mystery from background story itself, especially last week’s episode)
  • Overall : 7.75/10 (It has a lot of potential to become better in the future, so far I really enjoyed this series a lot)

Short-guide (13+) :

  • If you’re looking for mecha with interesting mystery background-story and a little bit of romance story, this is for you
  • Mecha-element isn’t that standout (like TTGL), the main point is the mystery where kids in picture above come from, and what is the real truth in their world
  • Similar-anime : Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

3. Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san

Synopsis :

“If you blush, you lose.”

Living by this principle, the middle schooler Nishikata gets constantly made fun of by his seat neighbor Takagi-san. With his pride shattered to pieces, he vows to turn the tables and get back at her some day. And so, he attempts to tease her day after day, only to find himself victim to Takagi-san’s ridicule again sooner than later. Will he be able to make Takagi-san blush from embarrassment even once in the end?

Score :

  • Story : 7/10 (One-sentence about story : I tease you because I like you. Fresh comedy story with 2 cute main characters, mainly about comedy and there’s a little beautiful love story between them)
  • Animation : 8/10 (Shin-Ei Animation, I don’t really know about this studio, but as we can see they’re doing a really great job with this series)
  • Character : 8/10 (Nishikata (main character) is a funny guy who teased a lot by our main-heroine. Takagi-san (main heroine) is the best, it’s kinda rare to see characteristics like her, smart girl who always act cute and tease his lovely crush everytime, so she can get near to him as much as possible. These two relationship is so cute to follow and will give you happiness)
  • Enjoyment : 9/10 (What can I say… you will get a lot of happiness)
  • Overall : 8/10 (You will smile all the way watching this)

Short-guide (13+) :

  • If you’re looking for comedy and a little bit of love story, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for episodic-series, this is for you
  • Similar-anime : Tsurezure Children

2. Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu (2nd Season) [First-cour]

Synopsis :

In a world similar to the European Middle Ages, the feared yet revered Holy Knights of Britannia use immensely powerful magic to protect the region of Britannia and its kingdoms. However, a small subset of the Knights supposedly betrayed their homeland and turned their blades against their comrades in an attempt to overthrow the ruler of Liones. They were defeated by the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that these legendary knights, called the “Seven Deadly Sins,” were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights themselves staged a coup d’état, and thus became the new, tyrannical rulers of the Kingdom of Liones.

Based on the best-selling manga series of the same name, Nanatsu no Taizai follows the adventures of Elizabeth, the third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, and her search for the Seven Deadly Sins. With their help, she endeavors to not only take back her kingdom from the Holy Knights, but to also seek justice in an unjust world.

Score :

  • Story : 9/10 (One-sentence about story : 7 legendary warriors who needed to save the world. Background-story is a core for the whole story, they’re a legend in the story (detail in synopsis). Pace of story is good, not fast and not slow either. This series feels a lot like usual mainstream-supernatural adventure-fighting series (Dragonball, Magi, Fairy Tail, Boku no Hero Academia, etc). One thing I really like from this series is the background-story from each warrior (7 of them called as Nanatsu no Taizai). At some important point, writer really did well to reveal one by one of their history which can make the story more interesting. In season 2, finally the story move-up a little bit more, and it’s the starting of their best fighting arc)
  • Animation : 8/10 (A-1, did a great work as usual)
  • Character : 7/10 (I don’t really like Meliodas’s (main character) personality (mostly because how he speak is annoying), but I really like when he fights (overpower main character). Support-characters has their own unique personality, all of them is likable)
  • Enjoyment : 8/10 (What can I say is, you will have fun watching this series like you have fun watching thoses titles I mentioned above. The most stand-out element in this series is the fighting-scene, it’s arguably better than most of similar titles I mentioned above)
  • Overall : 8/10  (What will you get is, exciting adventure, interesting history, and very great fighting-scenes)

Short-guide (13+) :

  • If you’re looking for shonen-mainstream story, this is for you
  • Similar-anime : Magi, and Akame Ga Kill

1. Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan (2nd Season) [First-cour]

Synopsis :

To the average person, psychic abilities might seem a blessing; for Kusuo Saiki, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Gifted with a wide assortment of supernatural abilities ranging from telepathy to x-ray vision, he finds this so-called blessing to be nothing but a curse. As all the inconveniences his powers cause constantly pile up, all Kusuo aims for is an ordinary, hassle-free life—a life where ignorance is bliss.

Unfortunately, the life of a psychic is far from quiet. Though Kusuo tries to stay out of the spotlight by keeping his powers a secret from his classmates, he ends up inadvertently attracting the attention of many odd characters, such as the empty-headed Riki Nendou and the delusional Shun Kaidou. Forced to deal with the craziness of the people around him, Kusuo comes to learn that the ordinary life he has been striving for is a lot more difficult to achieve than expected.

Score :

  • Story : 7/10 (One-sentence about story : Life is boring when you’re a psychic. Background story is basically about how Saiki (main character) was born. What I like the most from this series is, every new character in every newest episode will bring you new comedy-element and won’t get you boring with this series. The writer sure has really good comedy-sense, because he can always make new comedy-element and the quality of comedy never drops)
  • Animation : 7/10 (J.C. Staff and Egg Firm, there’s nothing extraordinary (we can see very well the studios doesn’t spend big money in this series) but surprisingly fit with the story)
  • Character : 10/10 (All of the character is very likeable (super likeable!) and each of them have a ‘unique’ personality. I really like Saiki’s personality as a main character (cool, kind, and comedic), and realistic personality like Teruhashi’s personality (real-life popular girl personality). Writer will always give you new character when he know the limits from current characters)
  • Enjoyment : 10/10 (It’s the best pure comedy I’ve ever watched)
  • Overall : 8.5/10 (Overall, this is the series which I’m always waiting for everyweek)

Short-guide (13+) :

  • If you’re looking for high-quality comedy story, this is for you
  • If you’re looking for episodic-series, this is for you

The reason why I love Football #Football

A little story of casual-boy who become a football-fan :
I want to let people know first, I’m a football-fan especially a Barcelona-fan. But I don’t like football immadiately when I know football, here’s a little story from me why I like football so much, and not really like it at first sight.

I start watching football since 2002 (the first time I remembered) when Brazil won the world cup, and everyone is like crazy about it. But I don’t understand anything, just following people hype about it, and also when my friend invite me to play football, I just following them, it’s not like I like football, but I just like playing with my friend.

The first club I support is Juventus because my brother support AC Milan. I just following the flow, when my brother like 1 club, I choose their rival, but playing Winning Eleven and PES on PlayStation is the biggest factor when it comes to my favorite club back then (sometimes I like Barca, sometimes I like Madrid, yeah basically because they’re a great team in the game). I also don’t really enjoy watching football, but I’m always watch the big match (such as World Cup and Champions League), because people always hype about it, other than that, I don’t watch football. There are some great players in those years like Madrid’s Galactico (Ronaldo, Zidane, Beckham, Figo), Serie-A’s legends (Maldini, Nesta, Pirlo, Kaka, Shevchenko, Del Piero, Nedved, Davids, Zanetti), Premier League’s legends (Henry, Gerrard, Owen, Scholes, Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo), extraordinary player like Ronaldinho who destroys Madrid’s galactico, and there’s more. But still, I can’t find football really interesting. I still see football as a boring-sport, 90 minutes is just too much for me while seeing player just attack and defence frequently, there’s really nothing extraordinary. Maybe only Ronaldinho and Zidane who is for me the most interesting footballer and want to make me to watch them, but yeah, I just admire them, nothing else.

And finally I saw someone who can make me sit 90 minutes comfortably watching football, the man who can dribble everyone, the man who can score whenever he want, the man who always give inhuman passes, the man who has a vision like he watch from the sky, the man who never dive, the man who can make hattrick looks so normal, the man who can surprise you consistently for 10+ years, and the man who is for me the greatest footballer of all time. You can’t describe him with words because it’s never enough, you have to actually watch him, feel his greatness and became the witness of him become the greatest. He’s the best playmaker, dribbler, and finisher in one person, his name is Lionel Andres Messi.

Playmaker, dribbler, and finisher in one person, people will think this is not really great. What makes it really great? Quality. Messi’s playmaking, dribbling and finishing, all of them is above other player. So basically, he’s the best playmaker, the best dribbler, the best finisher in the world, these quality is on 1 person, yeah, 1 person. There’s a lot peoples who said Messi is the best in history while they have watched Pele and Maradona (called as one of the greatest) playing, here’s one of them :

Playmaking, dribbling, and finishing what I’m talking about here is the quality of the best, not your average skill. And the only one who have these 3 skills and also the best-quality for all of them is Messi. It’s not the only factor why he’s so amazing, what make him really amazing for me is his decision-making, when to run, to pass, to shoot, to dribble 1 on 1, to steal the ball, to press, and even to walk. He also made me who doesn’t really interested in football, sit down quietely watching him and after that make me to learn many more about football, and finally become a fanatic like now. When I watched him, I’m always be like ‘What the fuck’ consistently for about 10 years. Great? Nah, not only great, he is the greatest.

and here’s also ‘some’ (there’s so many if I want to include it all, you can search it on youtube) legend and player’s quotes on Messi :

I can’t believe myself I want to wake up basically every 3 days at 2.30-3.30am (Asia-fans nightmare) just to watch football. I also can’t believe myself after watched Barca’s game, I still want to watch the highlight of the match again just want to analysis how my team plays and want to see them play again because I never get enough of Messi. But, not just Messi, it’s Barcelona. They play the most beautiful football in the world. Barca also has holy trinity midfielder Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets, which is for me, the best midfielders-lineup I’ve ever seen. I’m not rate them highly because they’re Barca players (I’m not biased-person), they have proof because this midfielder-lineup already winning every possible major trophy in the world of football such as World Cup, Champions League, Euro and winning treble twice. This holy trinity also the reason why I like Barca so much (so I’m not only Messi-fanboy), their one-touch passes is very very beautiful to watch, also how they make a space for teammates, you can’t do that unless you have very-high intelligent. Also, shoutout to Pep Guardiola who make all of this possible, the man who make me loving the game even more by making arguably the best squad in history, and to make me who think 90 minutes is too long for football, now feel 90 minutes is not enough.

Barca also has the best captain (for me), the footballer who I respect the most, his name is Carles Puyol. I always love Puyol because of his leadership, he always try to respect opponent, and always telling his teammates to respect their opponent (You know, it’s hard not to arrogant when you become the best in the world, but Puyol is still humble as ever). Respect is the most beautiful thing to do in football, but most of footballer nowadays doesn’t know how to respect. If you want to become top-player, you should know how to respect first. This is some Pique’s quote about Puyol which can describe Puyol perfectly as a leader.

Barca make the beautiful game become more beautiful with their play, because they’re not only play to win, but they play to win while playing great football (Thanks Johan Cruyff). Once again, I’m really grateful to Messi who can make me enjoying football like this, to make me love to analyse game after-match, to make me love Barca so much, to make me actually want to watch football because I like it not because people hype about it.

Gracies Leo, Gracies Barca!

A little closing :
This is actually the first time I have an idol, when my teacher ask me about my idol when I’m still Elementary-school student (for assignment), I always search the best possible person in the world first in google, then write it for assignment (usually it’s between Bill Gates and Albert Einstein). But right now, I have one, eh, actually two (along with Eiichiro Oda). These two people is the two I can proud openly to the others and always try to defend them when people saying bad things about them. Learning about their life, and their past is really interesting research and experience for me, because I’m always wondering ‘How can these guy do this inhuman things so consistently?’ For me, doing some extraordinary is regular for normal-human, because sometimes in your life, you can do it like once and twice, but the real question is, how the hell these guys can do it consistently for about 10+ years? That’s what make them special.

From now, maybe I will make an article about football too, I’m planning to make one, can’t wait to write it!
